Family Friendly Holiday Activities

I received these items free for purposes of my review. All opinions are my own.

Elyptol

I know we’re all staying home for the holidays, but I still want my surfaces clean for all the fun family activities we’re doing. So, before we get started, these hard surface wipes from Elyptol are perfect for wiping down the table or counter.

With natural ingredients and a Eucalyptus clean scent, these wipes are perfect for any solid household surfaces.

Elyptol has hand sanitizer, sprays, wipes, and liquid soap. Even if I wasn’t being extra cautious about germs this year, my 3yr old son is still struggling to accurately hit the inside of the toilet, so, I’m doing a LOT of bathroom cleaning. It’s nice to do it with a product that doesn’t dry out my skin and that leaves my bathroom smelling amazing!

Use code: germ free for a 20% discount when you order.

Adventure Challenge

Now that we have a clean work surface, the first thing my kids wanted to try out was this Adventure Challenge book.

There’s a plethora of fun family activities, you scratch off one, and have to accomplish it before you can pick another one. We just finished the one where you create a sculpture out of something from your fridge. It was so much fun!

There’s tape strips by each challenge for sticking on a photo of your adventures. When we’re all done it’s going to be an awesome book full of fun memories!

It’s hard to beat having fun AND being able to look back easily and remember it.

I’m loving the randomness of the activities, this makes them so fun and unique. And I love that I have a fun activity literally at my fingertips for those days when we just can’t think of anything to do.

So much fun!!!

You’re Pulling My Leg Jr

This game is simple, you ask a question – like tell me about a time an animal tried to bite you – the answerer flips a coin and doesn’t let anyone else see it, heads is the truth and tails is a lie.

The Answerer then answers the question by telling a story with the designated truth or lie and the listeners have to guess if the story is true or not.

We started this the other night and the kids did not want to stop! It’s so much fun coming up with random stories (or true stories) and trying to trick your siblings (and parents).

We got many laughs out of this game and have plans to play it again tonight.

The best thing is, you can easily play this game with a large variety of ages and everyone can have fun tricking everyone else. I plan to pull it out for our next extended family zoom call.

Pando

So this game arrived all wrapped up, with this cool note. I liked the game before I even played it! Obviously, the creators of this game are super creative, which is everything I could hope for in a get to know you trivia game!

This game works as a couples game, a group party game, and even as a family game. It’s funny how my questions my husband and I did’t know the answers to for each other!

The kids thought it was so fun to learn random information about everyone, and there really are so hilarious questions/answers that happened while we were playing.

This is another game that is perfect for family or friend zoom calls as well as family game night.

With all these awesome activities, my kids are well entertained this holiday season, while still learning about each other, and staying safe!

HuePets – Review

Thanks to Tryazon for sending the HuePets party pack to share with my friends!

We combined our HuePets party with a birthday party and I gave away the Hue Pets swag as part of our party favors. All the kids loved the squishies and we parents had a great time discussing the new HuePets app and how difficult it often is to get our kids to eat their veggies!

Because of the number of kids, bananagrams wasn’t a huge hit, but it’s definitely a fun game that involves fruit! And we made sure we kept 1 cookbook for ourselves. My kids love to cook and I’m excited that they want to cook with more fruits and veggies!

The HuePets app is super easy to use. Just scan your food and it walks you through the rest. It’s a fun way to track what everyone is eating!

Now More Than Ever Disney Party

A big thank you to Disney and BSM Media for this awesome free Disney Party Box! This #NowMoreThanEver box was packed with so many awesome items!

There were a few different styles of boxes that went out. We received the Mickey Mouse box. We all LOVE Mickey Mouse. We had family and friends in town for the week of July 4th, so we popped open our box and had a week of partying!

One of the most popular items in our box was this Popped Passion Popcorn cake. We had a fun lunch of hotdogs and hamburgers and pulled out this fun cake for dessert. My littlest guy loved it so much he tried to claim all of it for himself.

The next day we used our Mickey themed plates, cups, and napkins for a picnic in the park. I would have used the tablecloth too but the kids snuck it out for a lemonade stand with their friends the day before. Mickey definitely made it around town this week!

A coupon for a free family sized Michael Angelos meal was included in our box. And this made for a great “after swimming” snack for all these kiddos. And we finished off our weekend with this fun Mickey piñata.

This was supposedly a box for my 6yr old (who’s a boy) but there were a lot of girl themed items.

This Mickey Pillow Pet was well loved. It has hearts on it so none of the boys wanted it. But the girls were all about it! It’s super cute, and makes a great addition to my daughter’s pillow collection – yes, she has a pillow collection.

And the matching Belle dress and doll are adorable! We gave these to one of our guests. She’s 3 and the dress fits her with a little room to grow and she’s super excited to have such a fun doll for her trip home.

The Mickey Mouse Masks were a very popular item. I spent days “stalking” the kids trying to get a picture of them wearing these, but they were having so much fun, I never managed to get someone standing still long enough to get a good picture – LOL.

We had so much fun sharing our Disney Fun with friends and family!

Delicious and Easy Chicken Wings with Save The Day Seasonings

Thanks to Tryazon for the amazing box of Save The Day Seasonings! I received this box free to host and post about a seasonings party, all opinions are my own.

Sunday is a good day for us to have friends over but with flag football and then wanting to watch football in the afternoon I had to come up with something that could be mostly prepped before and that could be eaten with fingers.

I had all these amazing spices to try, so we settled on chicken wings:

9 chicken wings (separated – so divide the wing looking piece and the drumstick looking piece)
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
5 Tbsp Save the Day Seasonings
1 gallon ziplock bag

The day before, put wings, oil, and 3 Tbsp seasonings in ziplock bag, zip shut and mix or shake until wings are coated. Place in fridge overnight.

Baking: Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, turn oven to 350. Place chicken in single layer on foil. Bake for 15 minutes. Flip wings and sprinkle with remaining 2 Tbsp seasoning. Bake 15 more minutes.

I made 4 batches and use Jamaican, Spicy Jamaican, Strong Arm, and Alvi’s Incredible. My personal favorite was the Alvi’s Incredible, but I polled all my guests and they all came out pretty even, it was pretty impossible to pick a favorite. They’re all delicious!

Some of my guests were raving about how much they LOVE pre-mixed seasonings and how delicious and flavorful these seasonings are! I’m thinking that gift boxes as Christmas gifts would be perfect for some people this year! (yes, I’m already planning my Christmas shopping). Gift boxes are $30 and have 4 full size seasonings.

Check out the Save The Day Seasonings Store. And if you can’t decide, just start with “Alvi’s Incredible”, because it’s, Incredible!

Powerpuff Party

I received this product free for purposes of my review. All opinions are my own. Thanks to Tryazon and 3Doodler for the awesome party package!

IMG_20171203_140015

We had lots of fun with our 3Doodler Powerpuff kit! The kids liked the idea of creating their own Powerpuff character. However, in reality, we ended up with a bunch of pieces and a whole lot of eyes.

We love the original 3Doodler pens and my kids have spent hours designing things with theirs. And while I hope to one day finish my Powerpuff character, the character mold requires a lot of plastic and more time than I have at the moment. I managed to get 2 eyes done and then had to go do something else and when I returned the kids had removed my eyes and started their own project. So, I made 2 more eyes and it happened again. One day when I have time, I’ll do a whole Powerpuff girl without interruption.

IMG_20171213_222505

The kit comes with instructions, a pen, a head mold, and a few other forms. The head mold is larger than it looks and it took me basically an entire piece of plastic to do the black in the eyes. So, it takes a really long time to get all that plastic on there. The kids were pretty good at making accessories and they even managed an eye, the old kid at the party was 9 and even she lost interest before the project was completed.

IMG_20171213_222550

I really feel like this amount of detail is going to work better with older kids and adults.

While making the Powepuff girls is quite difficult, all the kids loved using the other round molds to make things like eyeglasses, hats, and such.

IMG_20171213_222426

All that to say, we had lots of fun making accessories, just didn’t get any actual Powerpuffs made. The box says 8+ for the age, which is pretty accurate, in my opinion. We just didn’t have enough time at the party for everyone to try it and to actually make a Powerpuff. However, sometime after the holidays are over and I have some free time, I’m going to sit down and make a Powerpuff or two because it really is lots of fun and they look so cute!

My Disney Kids Preschool Playdate

Thanks to Walt Disney World Resort and MomSelect for this awesome Disney Kids Preschool Playdate party box!

We had friends over and we moms hung out and talked while the kids played in the yard and enjoyed snacks and all the awesome party box contents! The weather was beautiful and the kids had tons of fun while we moms got to relax.

IMG_20160317_223821991IMG_20160317_223750468Everyone loved these Disney Junior drawstring bags. They were perfect for taking home all their “loot”.

Plus, my preschoolers love Disney Junior!

There were some pretty awesome sponsors this year. Like these sample packs of All Laundry Detergent. With 3 kids I ALLways need more laundry detergent. And since I also have a child who’s sensitive to dyes and scents, free & clear detergent is a must.

Best of all. The hostess gift this year was just awesome! It’s something we’ll get lots of use out of and it made my daughter so happy!

IMG_20160317_223131473

Of course, the favorite item in the box was this adorable Princess Sofia suitcase. My 5yr old daughter claimed it the second it came out of the box. She pulled it around for days and even had it packed for a trip to Grandma’s house (that she was planning all by herself). She’ll definitely get lots of use out of this.

IMG_20160317_223556243

The Lion Guard is Disney Junior’s newest show and all the kids were delighted with the animals, tattoos, and posters to take home. This is where those Disney Jr. bags came in really handy!

IMG_20160317_223745758

Next up, my 2yr old son claimed this adorable book sponsored by Banfield Pet Hospital. It’s such a cute story and my little guy loves dogs. And those Cars sandwich bags. I had to hide them from him so he wouldn’t “drive” them all over the house before the party. I put four chocolate cookies in each bag for “tires” for the kid’s snacks.

And Nesquik is our very favorite chocolate milk powder. We go through that stuff so fast! It’s delicious and ensures that my kids drink lots of milk.

IMG_20160317_223646620

Did you notice the Mickey? Actually, we have a Mickey or a Minnie depending on which side of the hat you show. Each of the kids got one of these hats to take home as well. Jake on one side and Sofia on the other. And since we had a mixed group of kids, this made everyone happy.

Last but not least, these super sparkly glitter puff glues from I Love to Create. There were also white paper bags and some templates for making puppets. The kids had so much fun designing their own characters with the glue, though, they did take quite a while to dry!

We had a blast at our party, and I’m so grateful to Walt Disney World Resort, MomSelect, and all the awesome sponsors for such a great box for our #DisneyKids party!

I received free products in order to host the Disney Kids Preschool Playdate. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Why Does Every Child Get a Prize?

Have you ever wondered, why is it at children’s Birthday parties, the Birthday child gives away goody bags? I’ve definitely wondered. Those bags and everything in them can end up costing as much as all the food at a party! They didn’t do this when I was a kid.

It’s like we’re compelled to give everyone something (other than food and a fun party) just for attending. I just don’t get it.

Now, before you panic, I’ve thrown my share of kid’s parties and we always give away goody bags. Though, for one summer water party, I gave away pool balls and a little plastic pool toy, each child got to pick their own. I had a few parents confused. Where are the bags?

And then it hit me, my 6yr old was reading me a story the other day. It’s an old Abeka 1st grade reader that I read when I was a kid, so I remembered the story the minute she started reading. It’s called “The Best Loser”. It’s about this little girl at a birthday party, who keeps losing every game. She’s told that at the end of the party there’s a prize for the best loser. She’s upset every time she loses, she loses at musical chairs, pin the tail on the donkey, and a guess what’s in the bag game. At the end of the party she expects the prize but it’s given to another child who had a good attitude about losing.

That’s how I remember parties, there would be 3 games, usually there’s a specially marked plate (which is totally NOT fair because picking the right plate is just chance there’s no skill required) and then two other party games like musical chairs or pin the tail on the donkey. The winning child for each game would receive a prize – most likely a bottle of bubbles or a jumprope from the dollar store. At the end of the party, 3 children went home with a prize and everyone else went home with nothing. No one thought this was odd or unfair. And the host parents didn’t spend a fortune on trinkets to send home with the guests.

Sometime between my childhood and having kids someone thought, “wow, this is unfair, my child is unhappy that they didn’t get a prize, at our party we’re going to give a prize to every child”. So, they gave out goody bags to every child who came. Other parents thought this was a great idea, and now it’s expected. Just try throwing a party and don’t have any goody bags to hand out at the end, and see what happens.

The strange thing is, it’s not the Birthday child handing these bags out saying “I’m so glad you came” and giving something meaningful to express their appreciation, it’s the child’s parents handing these bags out to every child at the party because it’s expected. Basically, at the end of the party all the kids go, “where are the goody bags, we’re ready to leave”. And these bags are filled with things that you, the parent, discard as soon as possible – tiny bubble bottles, stickers, pencils, tattoos, candy, etc.

When we get home my kids dig through their bags, discuss what they got, and scatter everything around the house. I have to ask a lot of questions to get a description of the party from them.

I think this is just another symptom of overprotecting our kids, we don’t want to let our kids lose or be disappointed because let me tell you, not getting the right plate so you can have a prize is just soul crushing.

I won’t be denying kids their goody bags at parties any time soon (let’s just say I would be considered a bad hostess), but I do think it’s worth considering that just maybe we’re not teaching kids to value disappointment and friendly competition. But we are teaching them to value all the junk that we get to bring home and throw away. Which one is actually going to help them in life?

My Disney Side Party

Thanks to Disney Parks and MomSelect for the awesome box full of Disney party supplies and sponsor products! We had a great time showing our #DisneySide!

There were several hostess gifts, A full-size box of laundry packets from All – which I’ve been wanting to try but didn’t want to spend the money and find out I don’t like it, so now I get to try it for free! Horray!

Also included was a Mickey Mouse pan and this awesome Duff Tie-Dye cake mix. Which you can purchase at Target. How did I not know about this already?!

My box was perfect! We celebrated my little girl’s 4th birthday this weekend and she wanted a Minnie Mouse party. Guess what! I got the Mickey and Friends box, she was super excited!

There was nail polish – the peel off kind, that I love for the girls – two Palace Pets, Minnie and Mickey party supplies and some fun Mickey Mouse party games like “pin the smile on Mickey”, Disney bingo, and a princess word search.

I already had her Birthday party scheduled at a local Bounce House place and I couldn’t bring food to that so I used the Minnie treat boxes to make the gift boxes for the kids that came to the party. I put in them the purple confetti that was packed in the box (it was used as packing material and purple is my 4yr old’s favorite color so this worked out really well). The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse pencils, crayons, stickers, and each child got a Mickey or Minnie luggage tag, and I assembled the Disney Diamonds and put candy in them. It made for a cute and easy treat box! I posted a video to my YouTube channel showing off my gift boxes!

The cake tower was so much fun! I didn’t have a way to integrate it into the party so we ended up using it for cupcakes on her actual Birthday and had a mini celebration on our own.

We have lots of family that lives in town, so, not to leave them out, we had another Birthday party the day after her party with friends (I know, 3 birthday parties, it doesn’t get much better than this).

I made the Mickey Mouse cake for this party. I had trouble getting the cake out of the pan – I ended up getting it out in pieces, piecing it together, and using lots of extra icing and it turned out great. Plus, everyone loves extra icing! The TieDie Cake mix is awesome! Everyone was so impressed with my cooking skills and it was so super easy! I’ll be making more TieDye cakes for parties. This is such a perfect party cake and really way easier to make than it seems it would be.

For my Sunday guests, I passed out the HP photo paper and we played the Disney games with the kids. Such fun! We had an awesome week of showing our Disney Side!

I received free products in order to host a Disney Side @Home Celebration. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Arla Dofino Cheese Review

Thanks to Bzz Agent I received a coupon to try Arla Dofino cheese for free! My family loves cheese and we really enjoyed trying out Arla Dofino. We actually liked it so much, we tried out several different varieties.

One of the cheeses we tried was the Jalapeno Havarti. The Havarti is pretty soft so it’s easy to eat as a snack with crackers. I don’t like most Jalapeno cheeses this way because usually the pepper chunks are too big. They were the perfect size in the Arla Dofino cheese. I also tried it grated up on chips. I spread the chips on a plate, grate the cheese on top, microwave for 30 seconds, and I have hot chips with cheese that I’ll dip in salsa. So delicious! And the Jalapeno cheese gave it an extra pop that worked great with the salsa.

I also made these little cracker bites with the creamy Havarti and bacon bits. I spread the saltines on a tray, put little slices of cheese on top, added some bacon bits, and cooked in the oven till everything was hot and melty. So delicious! They were eaten up very quickly!

For a tasty cheese tray, the round of Edam cheese was perfect. It has a great flavor, and it’s a great cheese to have out at a product, it looks like a premium product and it tastes great. Definitely getting another round of this for my holiday party this year.

I’ve liked every variety of Arla Dofino cheese that I’ve tried and I I can’t wait to serve some to my guests this holiday season.
